Foraging Perch
updated 08/12/09 07:45PM

Difficulty: easy

Materials:
* any length 2x2 boards
* furniture buttons any size
* almonds
* Kool-Aid (optional for color)

Description

    I found the furniture buttons at Hobby Lobby, a package of 3/8" 30 pieces for $1.47.
  1. Soak them over night in a small container with the Kool-Aid and a small amount of water.
  2. Meanwhile, cut the 2x2 to whatever size you need. I left Herbie's the full length (8') to fit across his outdoor cage.
  3. Drill holes with a 3/4" paddle bit for the almonds.
  4. Switch to the size bit you need for for your buttons and drill just deep enough for button to fit in.
  5. Soak the 2x2. If you leave the board as long as I did, you will have to get creative on soaking it. I happen to have a pvc pipe with an end cap on it, and I was able to soak half the board at a time.
  6. After your wood has soaked, take a mallet hammer and tap the almonds into the holes. Than tap the furniture buttons into their place.
  7. I hung the perch by putting eye bolts into the end of the board and using double ended bolt snaps.
