I found the furniture buttons at Hobby Lobby, a package of 3/8" 30 pieces for $1.47. - Soak them over night in a small container with the Kool-Aid and a small amount of water.
- Meanwhile, cut the 2x2 to whatever size you need. I left Herbie's the full length (8') to fit across his outdoor cage.
- Drill holes with a 3/4" paddle bit for the almonds.
- Switch to the size bit you need for for your buttons and drill just deep enough for button to fit in.
- Soak the 2x2. If you leave the board as long as I did, you will have to get creative on soaking it. I happen to have a pvc pipe with an end cap on it, and I was able to soak half the board at a time.
- After your wood has soaked, take a mallet hammer and tap the almonds into the holes. Than tap the furniture buttons into their place.
- I hung the perch by putting eye bolts into the end of the board and using double ended bolt snaps.
