Bird Enrichment idea #179 (view all)

Foraging Bottle
updated 05/24/11 12:23AM

Difficulty: easy

Materials:
* Empty water bottle
* Strips of plastic that detach from caps on milk, juice and water jugs
* Tiny treats
* Straws

Description

Other than the treats, this one is free! It takes a little time to collect the plastic, but very little effort to put together. Keep empty bottle setting in a handy spot and add the plastic pieces as they come available. Cut up a straw to different lengths. You can also use leftover pieces of plastic canvas to add to the mix. It's easier to add the treats as you go, if you wait until last it can be hard to jiggle them throughout the bottle. Use small items like chopped nuts etc. The more you pack in the plastic the more work your bird will be doing to find the treats.
