Bird Enrichment idea #185 (view all)

A Box of Butter Boxes
updated 10/04/10 11:55PM

Difficulty: easy

Materials:
* Twelve butter boxes
* A box that the butter boxes fit into
* Assorted fillings such as:
raffia, straws, pinecones, lids, shells, tissues, shredded paper, bubble wrap and of course diet and treats.
* Twirly Whirly straw cutter

Description

Ask friends to help you save the butter boxes. Stuff the boxes with your choice of filler. I used spiral cut straws (made with the Twirly Whirly cutter) in several of my boxes. But straight straws cut to fit would work just as well. So would sticks, leaves, dandylion flowers (unsprayed of course)or a long piece of plastic chain. The bubble wrap was a big hit. Drop in treats if you choose. Close all the boxes, unless your bird needs one open to get him started. Put the filled boxes in the larger box and it's ready to go.
