What The Research Says About CBD For Animals

Cannabidiol or CBD is thought to help dogs much in the same way that it helps humans — through the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system is made up of receptors in the body that regulate stress, mood, pain, and inflammation. CBD binds to and activates these receptors, which is why it helps to reduce pain, improve mood and lower inflammation in the body.

● Researchers at Cornell University examined the safety and effectiveness of CBD in managing pain in dogs with osteoarthritis in a four-week study. The dogs were divided into two groups. One received CBD oil at 2 mg/kg every 12 hours. The control group received a placebo oil. The dogs who took the CBD had a significant reduction in pain, according to veterinary assessments.

● Another groundbreaking study looked at the use of cannabidiol on dogs with epilepsy. Dr. Stephanie McGrath, a neurologist at Colorado State University, led the trailblazing research. There were a total of sixteen dogs enrolled in the study. Nine of the dogs were treated with CBD. The other dogs received a placebo. McGrath says that 89 percent of the dogs who received CBD had a significant reduction in the frequency of seizures.
