Have you heard of Leptospirosis?
by Peggy Huscher
Leptospirosis is an infection of bacteria that infects dogs. Did you know...
- Lepto symptoms commonly include lethargy and vomiting.
- Lepto can be found on rabbit poop and other wild animal droppings.
- Lepto can be found in water.
- Lepto can be fatal.
- Lepto can be transmitted to people.
- Lepto vaccine is initially a two-shot series and is 98% effective.
- Lepto is challenging to diagnose.
When Bailey became lethargic and not wanting her meals, a visit to the vet was made. Because she didn't follow the textbook on symptoms,
it took the vet too long to diagnose Lepto. When she got the diagnosis, it was too late.
She died during the night at the vets. It was very heartbreaking and with the vaccine, preventable.
Bailey was a long time regular at Always Home Daycare and we miss her greatly.
